Is VR The Future of Film

When it comes to VR in Film, Movies and Streaming, this is becoming a very popular crave by users and developers. In today's world, VR has the ability of being used for more than one purpose. Within the film industry, they are developing new way's in which people can experience a movie. VR is becoming the new way of the film industry and will be a thing the general viewer will start to notice and experience. IS VR going to be the future of Film or Movies? is something you could be wondering. I do personally think that VR will be integrated into the film industry more once content creators and developers see how VR could make their Films stand out. It will take a lot of time before we start seeing this happen or being put into use.

PHYS say's that Virtual Reality will change the face of Cinema within the next decade, but only if the content keeps up to date with the advances within technology. VR is already used heavily and promoted by some of the biggest tech giants in the world. These include Facebook and Microsoft. Both of these tech giants are creating new headsets that hopefully will ensure the format goes mainstream. Korean-American filmmaker Eugene Chung said that "We're really building the future" in relation to VR being used within the film industry. He is known for Winning the Best Virtual Reality Award for his production of "Arden's Wake".

Here is an article all about Chung's work Arden's Wake Maestro Social Vr.

Film's today even incorporate the VR aspect into the story line. An example of a movie that is based around VR is Ready Player One. This movie is based on a world fallen to its death, and all the human race does is us VR to make friends and access a life that is not necessarily real. The video shows how both worlds are unique and how the transition from real life into VR looks like. Here is the Youtube Video Link Ready Player One. This is a break through for the VR community.

When it comes to Cinema experience, a company called IMAX opened up the first European VR Experience Centre in Manchester.  IAMX partnered with ODEON Cinemas to allow this to come to our eye's. You might be asking what is this VR cinema all about? In simple terms this cinema will allow viewers to experience movies via a headset. Vrfocus says's that this experience is using a new design that consists of 10 pods, allowing multiple players to enjoy highly interactive, moveable VR experiences. The pods are designed to optimise user mobility and interaction in virtual environments. These experiences can then be adapted for specific content experiences, wether single or multi-user. They also include HCT Vice headsets, 360 degree sound and room-scale tracking. IMAX is going to provide the Experience Centre with ongoing array of new, interactive experiences that will range between 8 to 15 minutes in length. Yes they clips will be short, the experience will be out of this world! Some of the movies that will be featured are Ubisoft's Star Trek: Bridge Crew Rescue at Perseph, the newly launched Justice League, Survios' Raw Data and Eagle Flight.

I can't wait to see what VR will do with cinema and how it will expand to more countries. All i cam say is that VR within Film and Movies will be a big thing we will be used to in our everyday lives.

  1. I also believe that VR can be a future of film as you can see how big it is with games, so you can just imagine how great it can grow. When it will come to that point imagine being at home, having your VR on and being a part of the film. Great work Roisin!

  3. Not sure VR will be implemented into the film industry as soon as the gaming industry, due to the gaming industry growing a lot faster. It will certainly be implemented in the near future, but only with certain interactive movies. I can definitely see the film industry trying to make money out of VR. A nice change for once, most people only talk about VR being used for games

  4. Really interesting take on VR roisin! I never wouldv'e thought about VR being popularised in film, although this film Ready Player One does introduce the fact that VR is the future and may be the new way of life when all else fails and the world crumbles around us. Nice read and doesn't drag on nor confuse me like a lot of VR articles.
